Gujarati Daal

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 Kokam
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • Salt To Taste
  • 1 Green Chilli
  • 6 Curry Leaves
  • 2 Tbsp Peanuts
  • 1/2 Bowl Jaggery
  • Pinch of Asafetida
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 1 Tsp Fenguric Seeds
  • 1/2 Tbsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Tbsp Red chili Powder
  • 1 Cup Split Bengal Gram
  • 1/2 Tbsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 Tbsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 Inch Ginger chopped finely
  • 1/2 Inch Cinnamon cut in to tiny pieces

Method:

  1. Take a bowl add bengal gram in to it and wash it with water
  2. Then pour 1 glass of water in to it and put it to Boil in a pressure cooker till 3 whistles
  3. Once the cooker is cool
  4. Take the daal out and grind it using hand grinder [ do not seperate water from daal ]
  5. Now add tomato green chilli, ginger ,3 curry leaves, salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder,jaggery, kokam and peanuts in to it and put it on gas on high flame and stir occasionally
  6. On the other gas take a small bowl and put oil in it
  7. Once its heated add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon, clove, genfric seeds,3 curry leaves and asofetida in to it
  8. Once the seeds start spluttering , switch off the gas and pour this mixture to daal slowly
  9. Now let the daal cook for 30 minuit or till it becomes medium thick .
  10. Serve with Bhaat[steemed rice]
